I have attended Argosy University as a student for a year and some months, and it is one of the most compassionate Universities that I have attended. The staff is very encouraging and approachable. I am truly sad that you feel this way about such an inviting University.

I struggled through my online courses with undergraduate and graduate level at Argosy University – Online Division. I informed the school that I wanted to major in Psychology and was advised that my Bachelor’s was in Psychology; however, did not require internship or practicum hours. This made me hesitant but they persuaded me that it was accurate. My Bachelors is a BA (Bachelor’s of Art – Psychology, how it is stated on my degree). My Master’s degree they advised all they had was Master’s in Forensic Psychology and Master’s of Science in Human Services. After rigorous questions, including the internship and practicum hours; they convinced me that there was no requirement for this and that the Capstone class replaced this requirement. I graduated 10-29-2014 with my MS (Master’s of Science in Human Services).

Since then I have found loopholes to obtain my career goals in pursuing being a child therapist. I worked hard at a residential facility for 3 years and obtained an Agency Affiliated Certification, became a Case Manager and migrated in the company to a Children’s Outpatient Therapist, in school environment. During this time, I was even able to obtain an MHP Certification (Mental Health Professional) that is basically an Associates to a license. Furthermore, when seeking credentials through the Board of Licensing; I was informed to obtain a letter from Argosy that the Capstone replaced the practicum/internship requirements for my degree, copy of the course description and syllabus. When I contacted the school they advised me that my degree is not meant for therapy and I signed the nondisclosure form (which was expressed as a legality form that no one can get licensed after graduation – made sense). As a result, I am left with the ability to continue my career path with no hopes of ever obtaining a license in WA state due to the Board of License regulations that you must have practicum or internship hours on your graduate level transcripts (no minimum hours needed). I did have a person who was attempting to advocate for me at Argosy and met with the Seattle Argosy Campus Dean to see if a practicum could be supported through them. However, they are currently on a teach out, a month and half into their last practicum course and not accepting any new students (closing this campus).

So, I ask what good is it that an adult who is trying to pursue further education to obtain their objective for a career when their degree does not meet credentialing requirements? It doesn’t, I am now sitting on $100k student loan debt and still performing in my dream position; however, advancement is not an opportunity that I will have the luxury of having due to a degree that is obsolete. However, it will not be if I continue to work in my field until I decide to work in an Administrative position in Psychology, right? Wrong, who is going to hire a professional who cannot get licensed for a supervisory role into an administrative role. It is frustrating, misleading and loss of control.
